Upon hearing about Analog Shift’s event with Grahame Fowler, a watch collector and fashion maverick, expectations were set high and the urban luxury styled event did not disappoint. With a spotlight on the GAS collection, Fowler’s signature blend of luxury and rugged purpose, a talented mixologist, and of course great company; Long Island gave many of us a sanctuary away from the big city for a night.

A bit about the man himself; Grahame Fowler is a British designer and one-half of Timney Fowler, but you may know him better for his work in the Long Island and NYC area. As a collector of military watches himself, his watch rolls and straps quickly became fan favorites, showcasing his discerning eye for lasting value and functionality. For a brand with a rugged luxury aesthetic, part of its appeal is the whimsy that shines through in Fowler’s work. Even the event space featured touches that spoke to his personality and signature style.

An interesting note about many of the watch-related products showcased is a feature that one can only imagine could have been executed by someone so in touch with a collector's perspective. When asked what sort of things he kept in mind during his design process, Grahame Fowler responded with, “Practicality, durability, and something that would age well. I tend to see the end result in my mind and work my way back to the beginning.” In a day and age when the history of a watch often holds just as much value as the piece itself, this keen designer managed to find a way to match a collector’s mentality to the very products each of us needs. Each product is handmade and expertly crafted with collectors in mind.

We all notice and plan for how a watch might age and the market for faux patina and other accelerated aging processes has continued to grow. For those of us planning on taking the long way around, it feels fitting that our watch protection during transportation would age beautifully as well. My takeaway from such a thoughtful and relevant event: Grahame Fowler & Analog Shift’s GAS line is where you should look if you want luxury that lasts. Grahame Fowler puts a great deal of thought into his work, and if you see it in person you know; its quality speaks for itself.
